The client
Devine Globe runs a production web application that had outgrown its managed hosting platform.
The challenge
- The production application ran on a managed hosting platform with limited visibility, scalability and control.
- Risks around performance, security hardening, backup reliability and the lack of structured monitoring.
- The business needed a production-ready AWS environment to support growth.
The new environment, layer by layer
- VPCPublic and private subnets
- ComputeEC2 with restricted security groups and an Elastic IP
- DatabaseRDS MySQL in private subnets
- MediaS3, reached through IAM roles
- WatchCloudWatch Agent and alarms, email alerts
- RecordCloudTrail and VPC Flow Logs
What we did
architecture and dependencies, database growth, security needs, monitoring gaps and release process.
VPC with public and private subnets, EC2 with restricted security groups and an Elastic IP, RDS MySQL in private subnets, S3 for media through IAM roles.
RDS automated backups with 30-day retention, CloudTrail with 1-year log retention, VPC Flow Logs with lifecycle policies, CloudWatch Agent and alarms for CPU, memory, disk and database health, with email alerts.
IAM password policies, restricted access and SSL; log retention on S3 lifecycle rules; database observability; CI/CD with GitLab pipelines.
Built with
- EC2
- RDS MySQL
- S3
- CloudTrail
- CloudWatch
- GitLab CI/CD
The result
Migrated to a secure AWS production environment.
Application stability and reliability improved significantly.
Faster incident detection through proactive monitoring and alerts.
Lower operational risk and faster recovery through automated backups and centralised logging.
A foundation for automated deployments and future growth.
